Auto News: Honda is planning a strong comeback with the CR-V in India. This SUV was earlier sold from 2003 to 2020, but due to production changes and cost issues, it was discontinued. Now the company is developing a fresh seventh-generation CR-V in Japan. The model will be positioned above the Honda Elevate in the company’s SUV lineup. Honda wants to strengthen its presence in the premium SUV segment again. The brand is focusing on comfort, technology, and practicality to attract Indian families. This time Honda is also closely studying customer expectations before launch.

What’s New In Design?

The new CR-V will be built on a lighter and stronger platform. This updated structure will improve fuel efficiency, ride comfort, and handling. The SUV will share more than 60% of its parts with the latest Civic and Accord. This helps in controlling cost and ensures easier servicing in the future. The lighter build will also enhance the SUV’s driving performance on highways. Honda wants to make the CR-V feel more stable and premium on Indian roads. Comfort will be a major highlight for long-distance travelers.

Powerful Hybrid Setup Explained

The new CR-V will feature a 2.0-liter direct injection petrol engine paired with a hybrid system. Unlike the older mechanical all-wheel-drive system, the new version will feature an electric all-wheel-drive system. The rear wheels will be powered by a separate electric motor for better control. This setup will offer stronger acceleration and smoother city driving. The hybrid system aims to deliver high fuel efficiency and lower running cost. Honda also plans to use a new high-voltage battery pack for better power output. This technology is expected to attract buyers looking for modern and eco-friendly SUVs.

More Space And Comfort

The redesigned platform will allow Honda to reduce the size of the center tunnel. This will create extra leg room for passengers sitting in the rear row. The company wants the new CR-V to feel more airy and comfortable inside. The SUV will also get a new steering-column-mounted gear selector. This will free up space in the center console for storage. The focus is on making cabin design cleaner and simple to use. The CR-V has always been known for comfort, and Honda wants to take it further.

Bigger Touchscreen And Interior Tech

Honda is preparing a new touchscreen system for the upcoming CR-V. The new display may be close to 15 inches in size, replacing the older 9-inch unit. This larger screen will make maps, media, and car controls easier to view. Honda may also offer a digital instrument cluster with a cleaner interface. Wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are expected. Cabin materials may be improved for a more premium feel. Honda will try to make the SUV modern in both design and function.

Launch Timeline And Competition

The new CR-V is expected to make its global debut in 2027. The India launch may happen in the same year. The SUV will compete with Skoda Kodiaq and Volkswagen Tayron in the premium segment. The company may not offer a three-row seating option in India this time. Honda’s main goal is to offer a well-balanced price for the feature lineup. The previous high pricing had affected customer response, which the brand wants to avoid. A competitive price could help the CR-V regain its identity.

Why It Was Discontinued Earlier?

The CR-V was assembled earlier at Honda’s Greater Noida plant. When the plant was shut down, the company did not shift CR-V production to another facility. This led to the model being discontinued in India. However, the brand knows that CR-V still has strong recognition among Indian customers. Now Honda is evaluating whether to localize production for better pricing. If local assembly happens, the CR-V could make a more successful return. The relaunch strategy will play a key role in its future performance.
